It's been a while!

Wow. I can't believe it's been over a year.

I think it's time for a little bit of honesty. The reason I stopped blogging wasn't because I got super busy or picked up a new hobby. It was because I lost my job and was unemployed for over a month and was very sad. I didn't think anyone would want to hear about me crying three times a day because I was lonely and bored and scared about how I would pay my rent. It also would have been very depressing for me to sit down and type out everything that was not going well in my life.

It was a rough summer but I survived and learned a lot. School came and I had a wonderful final year and completely forgot about this blog. I have now graduated and am working in a job I really like and am overall very happy.

So what has inspired me to start up My Cry Blog again? Well I still cry. A lot. Often for funny reasons but sometimes for serious ones as well. I think sharing each of these can have a purpose. When I cry at a commercial or a cat video I've found it makes other people laugh. I am totally okay with this. When I cry because I've made a big mistake or something terrible and out of my control happens I want people to know that it's okay for them to do the same in their own life.

I never stopped telling people about times I've cried, it's just been a while since I've shared these stories on my blog. This is not a place for me to get pity or make people feel guilty. My main goal is to let people join me in laughing at myself a little and occasionally share a moment of vulnerability that hopefully helps us all relate to each other on a human level.

On to a few changes around here: Most of my posts will now be found on the Twitter handle @MyCryBlog. This will make it easier for me to update more frequently and also keep things short and sweet. I will still post here every so often when a story requires a bit more detail. I would also like to do a few posts recounting memorable times I've cried throughout my life. Anytime I post here I will also include the link in a tweet.

Finally, I'm going to try to be 100% honest about recording every time I cry no matter what the reason.

That's about it!

Thanks so much for sticking with me or joining me if you're new to My Cry Blog.

Cry once a day. It's good for you.

MAJOR UPDATE

Okay so as my sister kindly pointed out, nobody believes I haven't cried in over a month. I definitely have, however, I recently moved into a new apartment and haven't had internet installed yet. I check my email and do little things like that at coffee shops but I don't usually have time to blog. I have no idea how I'm going to recap all of the times I've cried over the past month and a bit and I wasn't keeping track so I'll try to give you the highlights:

- I re-watched the first season of Gossip Girl and cried literally at least once in every episode
- I cried twice in the car driving back to Ottawa while listening to the radio (first Don't Blink by Kenny Chesney, then She Calls Me Raymond by Brett Eldredge) but the songs may have just been an excuse for me to cry since I was sad I had to leave home so soon
- I had a complete breakdown the night before Marc left because I was hungry and tired, and scared to start a new job, and still sad that I didn't get to stay home as long as I planned to, and of course sad that he was going home for the summer

That's about all I can think of but I'm sure there were more. I'm working on getting my internet installed ASAP but until then I'll write everything down and post it when I can.

Thanks for sticking with me!!

49. The Trouble With Evan

Date: Wednesday, March 16, 2011
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Reason: Today in my journalism ethics class we watched a piece that aired on CBC's Fifth Estate called The Trouble With Evan. The episode was meant to be about an 11 year old boy who got into trouble and his parents who were taking classes to try to learn how to raise him better. It turned out to be a horrible story of verbal abuse along with lots of other problems and obviously the trouble was not at all with Evan but with his parents (who each had very abusive up bringings as well.) It was a heart-wrenching story through and through and I was on the verge of tears throughout the whole thing. The part where I actually cried was a scene where Evan's Mom and Stepdad were yelling at him about a dime that he had stolen from a change jar in their room. It was recorded by cameras that the family had agreed to have set up in their home and we are told that the fight went on for about an hour and a half! It was actually much less a fight and more of Evan being yelled at and silently taking the accusations. Only a few times did he quietly say, "I didn't take it." When Evan still wouldn't admit to stealing the money even after being yelled at repeatedly, his Mom went to recount what was in the change jar (she had counted it that morning and written the number down) and found that she had miscounted. She went back to Evan and had him stand on a chair while she kneeled below him and apologized. This is the part where I cried and I'm not really sure why it got to me more than all of the other awful things that had happened. I'll have to think about that. If you have a chance please watch this piece. I haven't been able to find it online yet but if I do I'll post it. It has emotionally exhausted me for the entire day.

48. Got me again!

Date: Tuesday, March 8, 2011
Time: 7:46 p.m.
Reason: Undercover Boss got me again! This time the mayor of Cincinnati went undercover as a city worker.

47. Undercover Boss

Date: Saturday, March 5, 2011
Time: 10:35 p.m.
Reason: CTV has a brilliant new show where bosses of major companies go undercover as an employee to find out what is happening at the ground level. I was excited to see the show because I thought it would be funny and interesting. What I wasn't expecting was for it to be so emotional. In the episode I watched, the CEO of Mack Trucks disguised himself as a factory worker and tried several different positions, meeting lots of different people. Most of the people he met had a heart-wrenching story about why they were working for Mack and at the end of the show, after the CEO had revealed himself, he presented a few special workers with a gift relating to what they needed in their life. Almost all of them cried which of course got me started too! Great show though.

46. The King's Speech

Date: Friday, March 4, 2011
Time: 10:30 p.m.
Reason: Marc and I went to see The King's Speech tonight. I cried basically for the last 20 minutes. I want to tell you why, but I really want you to go see it for yourself so I'm going to keep quiet. I will tell you they were mostly happy tears though. Such an amazing movie!

45. Gossip Girl

Date: Wednesday, March 2, 2011
Time: 1:00 p.m.
Reason: Gossip Girl hasn't been able to get me in a while. But today I watched the latest episode, Empire of the Son. If you don't follow the show this is not going to make any sense but the part where I cried was when Lily turned herself in for forging the affidavit. They asked her why she was in such good spirits when she would potentially be going to jail and she said it was worth it because Serena had smiled at her for the first time in so long!

41. A Cinderella Story

Date: Saturday, February 26, 2011
Time: 12:56 p.m.
Reason: As I mentioned, I haven't been feeling well so I've been watching movies all day. This one gets me every time. The part where she finally stands up to her evil stepmother - awesome!

40. Sick

Date: Friday, February 25, 2011
Time: 8:40 p.m.
Reason: I've been pretty sick the past few days and I was talking to Marc on the phone and he was asking me how I felt and I started crying. It's pretty much a rule that I cry at least once every time I get sick.

38. and 39. Centretown News

Date: Friday, February 18, 2011
Time: 1:42 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Reason: In my reporting class, we were assigned to write stories for Centretown News - a newspaper run by our school that is distributed to about 50,000 nearby homes. I was really excited because the paper came out today. Unfortunately, my story wasn't in it. Or online.

37. Happy Hearts Day!

Date: February 14, 2011
Time: 2:00 p.m.
Reason: I went to my boyfriend's house today and found his door covered in sticky notes in the shape of a heart. Each one had a special memory written on it and as I was reading them I started to cry. Best Valentine ever!

36. You Can't Always Get What You Want

Date: February 13, 2011
Time: 10:13 a.m.
Reason: I've been apartment hunting for a few weeks now and I finally found the one I want! Unfortnately someone else wanted it too and applied ahead of me. So now it's back to square one.

35. Disappointed

Date: January 31, 2011
Time: 5:14 p.m.
Reason: I left an assignment till the last minute and had to hand it in incomplete. My prof called me up at the end of the class to ask about it. I did not cry at that point which I'm pretty proud of. I told him I was sorry and had been planning on emailing him later that afternoon. As I was writing the email saying how I knew it was unacceptable not to complete an assignment, and it was fully my fault... that is when I cried. Also, as a special treat I called my housemate Judy into my room to witness because she had never seen me cry before and said she wanted to. We both laughed and I felt much better!

33. and 34. Dan in Real Life

Date: Thursday, January 20, 2011
Time: 12:34 p.m. and 12:54 p.m.
Reason: I had never seen this movie and I found it in my house and decided to watch it. It is pretty overwhelming. So many big family moments. The first time I cried was at the climax of the drama, and then again when it was all solved and everyone was happy.

32. Broken Record

Date: Wednesday, January 19, 2011
Time: 3:53 p.m.
Reason: This afternoon my analytical assignment drove me to tears once again.  Hopefully for the last time.  After a good peer editing session in class, I made the necessary changes to my piece, closed it, went to send it to my professor, and realized I hadn't saved my changes. I then proceeded to wail about how it would never be as good again, and how I couldn't possibly spend another minute of my life on it.

31. It's Official

Date: January 18, 2011
Time: 1:57 p.m.
Reason: Wow. Three times in less than 24 hours. This is officially my first journalism-induced breakdown of the year.

30. "I don't think anyone here can help you."

Date: Tuesday, January 18, 2011
Time: 1:32 p.m.
Reason: A source I was banking on for my aforementioned analytical reporting assignment fell through.

29. Over Analyzing

Date: Monday, January 17, 2011
Time: 10:58 p.m.
Reason: I am in a class right now called "analytical reporting" and we are working on our final assignment. We need 10 sources and it has to be 1200 words (fairly long for journalism.)  It is due on the 19th, and I currently have 2 sources. So I did the only thing I could think of and called my boyfriend crying. Unfortunately, he does not count as a source.
